ads
I'm currently testing a new advertiser. I have to because currently the site is costing me money. If it works my motivation will also increase and then I will improve the site...

google zip/rar trick added
There are a lot of filesharing tools out. megaupload is dead now. In general a google query that contains an artist and or album name will often give good results. With a wildcard it will even be better because the year of release might be added between it. I found out that mediafire often gives a great download and added a useful query to exploseek. It is better always use quotes between this IMHO. Play around with it. An example is
"Elvis_Presley*.zip" OR "ElvisPresley*.zip" OR "Elvis Presley*.zip" OR "Elvis_Presley*.rar" OR "ElvisPresley*.rar" OR "Elvis Presley*.rar"
and if you want to limit it to a certain site add something like site:mediafire.com which is now there already.
Remember google is still the best option to find media on the internet (if it is indexed in one way or another) The drawback is that we often have to go through tons of spam sites.

Google images now has the date option
I tested this for a while but it never worked. I was amazed to see that they finally released this now. To filter images for date it is a matter of adding
&tbs=qdr:m (for a month)
&tbs=qdr:w (for a week)
&tbs=qdr:d (for a day)
to the URL. The structure seems to be the same one as for the normal search results.

Some small updates
Time really flies...
music:
no change
vids:
Both google videos and youtube search results are now sorted by upload date, which is very useful if we regularly check our favourite artists. Also rare material will be easier found in that way (or you will find it before it is removed). The other search engines are removed. Google video includes the most important ones, including youtube of course but that one is worth posting directly also.
images:
MS Live images changed to Bing images and corrected the query.
Flickr images sorted by upload date. Fotopic removed, tinypic removed, textamerica removed, bebo removed and mobypicture added.

It looks like http://www.google.com/search?output=ie&q= bites the dust
http://www.google.com/search?output=ie&q=test
I'm sure there must be another one, if anyone knows one let it know.

A link to STH
Not really search related... although... This forum is the reason that Exploseek started. I was also posting there years ago, it seems still a great place.
I would say if you find a nice site first bulk download it then post it at

megaupload rapidshare google query
I've added two test queries, although it's under the category 'music' it is for both music/video in general.
A direct query within the megaupload.com domain (using site:) seems to be very useful, for rapidshare that doesn't give much results therefore I've also added a query 'megaupload.com OR rapidshare.com' and if you are lucky rapid gives it to you, if your IP adress is not timed-out. With that query you will, of course, also find links to a lot of rapidshare or megaupload search engines that you can check individually. I have no idea if it is useful to add those and I'm not really into them.

pdf / magazine search and Issuu
Google's pdf option is very useful to find pdf files/magazines, I created a query in the compact format.
Also Issuu (for publishing) is very nice, although not all publishers also have PDFs on their site, I've put it under the pdf category.

http://www.google.com/ie alternative
It seems that it is still possible to use the nice interface if you replace
http://www.google.com/ie?q=
by
http://www.google.com/search?output=ie&q=
Fixed for now.
